Independent Non-Executive Director, Chair of the Risk and Compliance Committee

Katherine Coates was appointed as non-executive director and Chair of the Risk and Compliance Committee at Talbot Underwriting Ltd, in November 2021. She  commenced her non-executive career in 2021, having spent 40 years at leading law firm Clifford Chance where held the role of Partner for over 30 years and led the global insurance sector group of over 200 lawyers.

In addition, she chaired the firm's Audit and Risk Committee where she was influential on modernising the firm's approach to risk management, including the enhancement of internal audit protocols and the development of effective enterprise risk management frameworks and related policies and controls. She is now also a non executive director and chair of the risk committee at Great Lakes UK Limited, part of Munich Re and a non executive director or equivalent at Phoenix Re, the UK Endorsement Board and Imperial College as well as being a school governor and carrying out various mentoring roles.
