Julian Ross
Chief Risk Officer
Julian Ross is the Chief Risk Officer and a Director at Talbot. He was previously Chief Actuary from 1997 to 2009 and Chief Risk Officer at Validus from 2010 to 2011. Julian joined Talbot in 1997 and has worked in the Lloyd’s market for over 20 years. He has served on various market and professional committees throughout his career and is currently a member of the Lloyd’s Market Association CRO committee. Former appointments include Chairman of the London Market Actuaries Group for 2000 and 2001 and Chairman of the LMA Committee of Actuaries in the Lloyd’s Market for 2006 and 2007. Julian has been co-author of multiple papers, including an LMA paper on model validation. Prior to joining Talbot, he was Corporate Actuary for St Paul Re in Europe from 1995 to 1997. Julian began his career as a consulting actuary in 1988 for Lane Clark & Peacock, initially on the employee benefits side before transferring to non-life insurance in 1992. Julian has an MA (OXON) in Mathematics from Merton College Oxford and is a Fellow of The Institute of Actuaries.
